I am a retired from a school system and would love to get more information on being a proofreader. I love and enjoy reading. The genre can be fictional, romance, history, etc. The only pet peeve I have is reading a book and finding a misspelled word or a run on sentence or an incorrect verb used in a sentence. I cannot wait to get started on How To Become A Proofreader (So You Can Finally Get Paid To Read All Day).

I am a retired clerical worker that worked in a school setting for over thirty years. I have always enjoyed reading and it gets me when I am reading a book and notice errors in spelling and grammar. It makes me wonder if the book was ever proofed before it was published. I cannot wait to sign up and take the seminar on How To Become A Proofreader. Thanks for all the motivation. I am really excited to get started.

Proofreading novels is what I would have written on post it notes. I have some experience proofreading for a large corporation, and have done a bit of freelance writing.
I noticed you were well aligned for this type of work, with already being in the field. When I read that, I always feel at a disadvantage.

Hi, Phon. You're article is very inspiring. I've worked more then 10 years in publishing houses (proofreading, editing, copy editing), but now my life changed. I moved to England (I'm Portuguese) and I'm struggling to settle my own ideas down. I loved my work and to be be able to keep doing it on my own time would be awesome but I have 3 big obstacles: Me, myself and I . I'm not a native and that seems to block me from moving forward because I always think people won't hire me (although I never honestly tried it). It's not easy to start on your own when you've always worked for someone else. I need to organise myself and you're article has already inspired me to do so and move on. After getting an announcement of layoffs at work, I was trying to think of what I really wanted to be when I ‘grew up’. Having worked in the same industry for a long time, this was a huge step. Being a heavy reader, I did a Google search on “How to be a proofreader” and found you blog. It sounded just like what I was interested in.
