Clara Remote Assistant Review
If the idea of being the human element behind Artificial Intelligence sounds appealing — I’ve got the perfect work from home job for you. It’s working as a Clara Remote Assistant for a company called Clara Labs, a technology startup based out of San Francisco.
Their mission is simple:
Streamline information technology so that all humans have more time.
So, how does Clara Labs intend on giving all individuals more time by freeing them up from one of the most notorious time sappers out there?
By building Clara, of course. That’s where you come in. As a Clara Remote Assistant you will help schedule their clients’ meetings and other day-to-day events while also playing a role in training artificial intelligence.
Intrigued? Me too! That’s why I reached out to Clara Labs to learn more about this home-based job. This is what I found out.
How Clara Works
Meetings, get-togethers, interviews, and other time-specific obligations are a part of just about every busy solopreneur or professional’s day. The meetings themselves aren’t the time sappers, it’s the act of actually settling on a time and date to meet that can be unnecessarily drawn out, wasting valuable time.
Think about this, there are an average of 25 million (yes, million) meetings every day in the United States. That’s a lot of back and forth between two or more people as they attempt to nail down a time and day that they can all agree on.
So, what if, instead of multiple emails back and forth, you could send just one, to Clara, and have the perfect meeting day, time, and place show up in your calendar?
Well, you can. And Clara Labs has been working hard to perfect their artificial intelligence, Clara, with the help of smart and self-motivated CRAs.
What Does a Clara Remote Assistant Do?
I hesitate to use the term email processing to describe a CRA, because that often sends up scammer red flags, but in this case that’s what you will (legitimately) do as a Clara Remote Assistant.
You see, a client can email Clara directly to make a request like, “Can you move up my Thursday meeting to Tuesday?” or they can CC Clara into an email conversation so Clara can take over the scheduling details with another person. Once Clara sets up the meeting, it shows up on the client’s calendar.
This means, as a CRA, you will be processing incoming emails from Clara clients. In doing so, you will help train Clara to be even more effective as an artificial intelligence scheduling tool.
What Does it Take to Become a Clara Remote Assistant?
After I shared this job lead on the Work From Home Happiness job board, many readers began asking questions that I just couldn’t answer.
So, I reached out to Clara Labs to learn more about being a CRA. Olga Narvskaya, Product Operations at Clara Labs, was kind enough to answer some questions and, in doing so, provided a little added insight into this human-meets-AI remote position.
English is a Must
Since you will be scheduling client meetings and corresponding via email, your English grammar must be spot on. However, this doesn’t limit the candidate pool to United States residents only.
Olga mentioned that, “A significant portion of our contractor community is located outside the US. As a reminder, we do require native-level English proficiency.”
So, it doesn’t matter where you live as long as you can write with perfect English grammar.
For candidates outside the U.S., it’s also important to remember, being available during Pacific Standard Time (PST) to process emails is important to meet the demand of their clients!
Technology Embracers
All CRAs have extensive scheduling experience and conduct themselves as professionals at all times. As a technology startup, CRAs must also be tech savvy and able to quickly adapt to changes as Clara Labs continues to grow and evolve.
If you get excited by the possibilities that present themselves in a startup environment rather than cringe at the idea of learning new things, then being a CRA may just be a good fit for you!
What’s the Pay Like?
A Clara Remote Assistant Review wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t address earnings. Clara Labs is very straightforward when it comes to pay:
“New Clara Remote Assistants start at $11/hour.” There are some CRAs who earn as much as $15/hour. You could expect pay increases if you continually perform quality work.
Your hours are tracked and payments made using Upwork. If you’re not familiar with Upwork, it is currently the largest freelance marketplace.
They have a tool that freelancers and clients can use to “track time.”
So, you would launch this desktop app while working and it automatically keeps track of your time for you. Your hours are submitted at the end of the work week, Clara Labs reviews them, approves them, and then you are paid.
On Upwork, you have the option to be paid via PayPal or directly to your bank account.
Note: Upwork does take a 10% cut of your earnings. If you choose to be paid via PayPal, they take an additional $1.00 every time you request payment.
So, how many hours can I expect to work?
This is considered a part time position. However, there may be opportunities to work additional hours. As Olga from Clara Labs noted:
“Every week, contractors request the hours they’d like to work next week, and we try to accommodate those requests based on customer demand. Not every hour requested is accommodated, but we typically have opportunity to work extra on top of confirmed hours that pops up during the week.”
It’s nice to know that, if you want them, extra hours may be available at different times throughout the week.
What are Current CRAs Saying About Clara?
There’s no better place to read a candid Clara Remote Assistant review than by going straight to the source. Current CRAs have nothing but great things to say.
Most are thrilled by the fact that they don’t have to pick up a phone to complete their work and have extreme flexibility when it comes to their schedule (talk about a win-win!).
It’s also helpful that, as a company, Clara Labs is constantly working to implement changes that have a positive impact on their clients and contractors.
From a contractor standpoint, their openness when it comes to communication makes remote workers feel supported — no matter where they’re working from.
Like what you’ve read so far? Then it’s time to dust off the ol’ work from home resume and apply today to become the human element behind artifical intelligence as a Clara Remote Assistant. The hiring and onboarding process can take about 10 hours to complete. If you do so successfully, you get a one-time $50 bonus — how’s that for incentive?

I tried applying with them about a month ago. Got through all of the interview steps just fine, they were ready to hire…then said they could not hire someone from Colorado because of state regulations. They then said that if they “expand to other states”, they would let me know.
The notion of being able to work from anywhere seems to be false, but I definitely didn’t see any stipulation on their application site, nor did I know about it until I was basically hired lol. So that sucked.

I got hired with Clara recently and so far I have to say, it has been great! I am within the US, as are many others that work for Clara. If you are looking for a “get rich from home for doing minimal work” job, this is not for you. You must pay close attention to what you are doing and take time to learn protocol to be efficient and successful. The support available with clara is wonderful, they are great with answering any questions or concerns that you may have. So far, this has been a big blessing for my family as I am able to continue to stay home with my son and still have an income. No, I don’t make tons of money doing this, but I also and still learning, and it still helps us a bunch.

I must say, the way you described the pay system in your article was quite misleading and would point to the fact that you, the author, really didn’t do your research. You said contractors get paid $11/ hr and some of the best make upwards of $15/ hr, but Clara doesn’t even pay by the hour, it pays by the job.

Hi JL,
Thank you for stopping by! This article was written nearly 2 years ago. In that time, Clara has changed how they operate — a lot. They’ve gone back and forth from hourly to per project and from direct hiring to using Upwork.
Thanks for letting me know they’ve changed things up again. Good luck 🙂
Happily,
Ashlee
