Full time work from home jobs as an employee are just like traditional office jobs. However, you get to telecommute!
In itself, no commute is an amazing benefit. After all, the average commute is at an all time high of nearly 28 minutes each way according to Census.gov.
After a decade of remote work, I can’t even imagine an hour driving to and from work day after day.
In addition to no commute, you are eligible for employee benefits too.
Remember, you are only eligible for benefits as an employee.
Freelancers and contractors do not receive benefits.
In fact, you can learn all about the differences between employee and freelance jobs. When you’re ready, head back over here. Today, you can check out a list of real companies you can build a career with. (The benefits aren’t too shabby either).
The best part? You don’t have to set foot into an office!
What Are Full Time Work from Home Jobs Anyway?
In this case, we are talking about employee positions at remote companies. You already know what an employee job is if you’ve ever worked a traditional office job.
As a remote employee you:
- Work a set schedule
- Are benefits eligible
- Have taxes taken from your pay
- Receive regular paychecks
- Clock in and clock out as required
For the most part, employee positions are not flexible. You cannot come and go as you please. Instead, you ask permission for time off and are expected to work specific hours. In return, you receive steady paychecks and a predictable schedule.
Simple enough, right?
When You Should Not Seek Employee Jobs from Home
Let’s face it, remote employee positions are not for everyone. That’s okay. Fortunately, there are other remote work options out there. But, how do you decide if you should work from home as an employee? Ask yourself these questions:
- Do I have a quiet home office?
- Am I able to work a full time schedule without interruptions?
- Can I commit to 40 hours a week?
If you answered “no,” to any question, reconsider your work from home type.
Remember, you cannot get up and leave any time you want. Similarly, you can’t have kids in your care during work hours. It’s also not a good idea to run errands, complete chores, or binge watch The Witcher (no matter how handsome Henry Cavill is).
Think about it, you would not walk out of an in-person office job to run errands or bring your children to the office. Chances are, you wouldn’t endlessly scroll social media or login to Netflix either. Well, you might. But, you would likely get fired if you did!
If you can’t or wouldn’t do it in a traditional office, you can’t do it with full time work from home jobs either.
Companies that Have Full Time Work from Home Jobs
Today, there are literally thousands of companies that hire remotely. Seriously, I could write a seemingly never-ending list. However, not all companies hire full time remote employees AND provide outstanding benefits.

Hi Ashlee: I hope your weekend has been fantastic! Thanks for your emails. I work for a hospital for the past 13 years, I am a secretary/administrative assistant, bilingual with excellent communication skills. My question is do you ever see or find jobs to work as a secretary at home? I took a Virtual Assistant course but I am not ready to stay home yet because I have some bills I would like to pay first. I would love to work at home some extra hours so I can get those bills paid. If in your research you see something like that can you please post it? Thanks so much for all you do to help others. Many blessings! I am subscribed to your emails.

Hi Anna Marie,
Thanks for stopping by! You know, I don’t really see ads seeking remote secretaries. However, I do come across a number of companies that hire virtual receptionists. This is pretty much answering incoming calls and taking messages for small businesses, busy professionals, and solopreneurs.
Is that something you’re interested in?
Kind regards,
Ashlee Anderson

I’ve been looking for quite some time for a remote position. I am very interested t learn more. How can I gain more information and ultimately employment?
Danielle says
Hi Ashlee,
Great post. I’m in the midst of a sort of mid-life crisis in my career (although I’m only in my 30s!)
I am a first time mom, and I’m quickly realizing that my current career is not at all conducive to my new life, so I’m thinking that a work-at-home gig is the way to go. However, I noticed that a lot of the jobs posted by the companies you mentioned require a technical background. Although I do consider myself pretty tech savvy, that is not my expertise.
I currently work as a behavior analyst, and I have a masters degree. I have experience in customer service, and I would consider myself to be creative and artistic. I also really enjoy writing.
Can you think of any work from home Jobs that would be more up my alley? I’m not really sure where to even start looking because I don’t know what my experience would qualify for.
Any advice?
Thanks!
-Danielle

Hi Ashlee! I am have been trying to break into the work from home game for awhile and am finding it difficult to get in the door. Currently I am an administrative secretary and would love something administrative or clerical. I dont have my own computer, we have wireless internet, and I can’t really afford buying a computer “just in case” I get a job. Any suggestions? I am really discouraged.
Ashley says
Hello Ashlee,
I am determined to enter the work from home world but i am having a hard time entering! How long did it take you to transition into your work from home career? Did you have any experience in writing before you became a freelance writer?
Thank You
Ashlee Anderson says
Hi Ashley,
Thanks for stopping by! I had absolutely zero professional writing experience before I started freelance writing. I found the hardest part was actually getting started. For the most part, I kept thinking no one would want to pay me to write for them. But, as it turns out, there are plenty of people very eager to buy writing as a service. It’s all about building confidence in the beginning and, of course, actually getting started 🙂 Let me know if you have questions!
Happily,
Ashlee
