Work From Home Chat Support
Work from home chat jobs are one of the most requested telecommute job opportunities out there. People like that chat jobs usually don’t require phone work and offer a flexible schedule. As a work from home chat support agent, you can expect to handle a variety of customer inquiries regarding everything from website issues to online orders, refund requests, and even provide technical support.
Sometimes you might come across work from home chat positions for a company that offers chat support for a number of different businesses at once. This means you may be providing support to customers from multiple companies at any given time.
However, some companies directly hire work from home chat agents to handle inquiries from their customers. These positions are particularly coveted because they usually come with higher pay rates and are employee positions which offer benefits. One such work from home chat agent job can be found through Apple.
At Home AppleCare Advisor
As I type this, Apple has 163 work from home chat support agent positions listed on their website. The actual position is called an At Home Advisor AppleCare Chat Team. You can search for this and any other open positions here.
There are usually a number of these positions listed at any given time. Why? The AppleCare Chat Team operates 24/7, 365 days a year including holidays.
It takes a lot of chat agents to cover every second of every day.
Work From Home Chat Agent Overview
If you go to Apple’s career page, you’ll see that the work from home chat agent jobs are listed by city. However, Apple considers all United States candidates. Since the position is entirely remote, you can apply to any of the AppleCare chat team openings even if you don’t live in the referenced city.
So, what does Apple look for in a work from home chat agent?
You’ll have to have availability to work during one or more shifts.
- Daytime: 4:30 a.m. CST to 11:30 p.m. CST
- Mid-Day: 1:00 p.m. CST to 4:30 a.m. CST
- Graveyard: 7:00 p.m. CST to 11:00 a.m. CST
As an At Home AppleCare Adviser, you’ll need to have at least two years prior experience troubleshooting technical issues. A quiet workspace, ability to type 40WPM, and prior customer service support experience are also necessary.
And since this is an entirely remote position, you’ll need to have the discipline and self-motivation it takes to work without supervision.
Do I need to have experience using a Mac?
The short answer is no. As long as you have prior troubleshooting experience and an ability to learn on a Mac, then you can still be considered.
What about training?
Apple provides training to all work from home chat support agents. Training can take anywhere from five to six weeks and is done on a fixed schedule. You’ll need to complete training before being assigned a shift.
How much does Apple pay their AppleCare Chat Team?
Pay rates will be discussed during the hiring process. However, with a little bit of research, I was able to find various pay rates reported by work from home chat agents for Apple.
One lady with 13+ years of technical support experience says she started at $18.00 an hour. Another worker says the average pay rate is around the $14.00 mark.
But then there are others who are reporting much, much lower pay rates to the tune of $9.00 to $10.00 per hour. It appears these people are hired by another company that contracts with Apple.
So, my advice to you is to wait and apply directly through Apple and not through any companies that contract with Apple to provide support.
Will I get benefits as a work from home chat agent?
Yes. If you apply through Apple, you’ll be an employee. This means you’ll be entitled to a number of great benefits. Apple offers its full and part-time workers health insurance, paid time off, stock options, and even discounts on Apple products. How awesome is that?

I am very interested. Is it realistic to go through the training while still working my current 40+/hour job? I am not financially able to leave this position until I have another one secured.
