Get Paid to Place Food Orders (Without Stepping Foot in a Restaurant)
Have you ever ordered online from a website or used one of the popular apps to help get food from your favorite local restaurant directly to your door?
You’re not alone. In 2015, more than $1.5 billion worth of food orders were placed just through GrubHub alone!
And that’s just one of the several popular options customers turn to when they have a hankering for their favorite cuisine but don’t want to pick up the phone to make an order — and, really, can you blame them? In just a few clicks of a mouse or swipes and taps on your phone, you’ve got dinner covered.
This surge in popularity of online food ordering is great news if you want to work from home. Why? Many of these companies offer remote food order positions that let you put your customer service skills to use (without having to step foot in a restaurant or put on an apron!)

1. GrubHub
GrubHub is the largest online and mobile food platform out there. They’re expected to hit sales of more than $2.5 billion in 2016. It’s no wonder that they frequently need Customer Service Reps to keep up with the demand.
To be fair, GrubHub doesn’t actually hire Customer Service Reps directly. Instead, they contract their work through a company called NexRep.
NexRep will hire you as an independent agent. This means you work on a contract basis and essentially get to be your own boss online. Part of this includes setting your own schedule, billing NexRep for your services, and paying for your own expenses.
When you contract with NexRep you can work as a GrubHub Customer Service Rep or any of their other opportunities like virtual receptionist, Tidal Customer Service Rep, and inbound sales.
What does a GrubHub Customer Service Rep do?
- Help process food orders from more than 35,000 restaurants across 900 U.S. cities
- Document transactions by completing records forms
- Data entry
- Provide the best customer service while representing the GrubHub brand
What should you have?
- Product knowledge
- Home office setup
- Availability to work at least 20 hours a week between 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. EST (Thursday-Sunday)
- Customer service experience
You will be paid by the hour (rate is discussed at time of contract!). Note: To contract with GrubHub through NexRep, you will need to pass a background check. You are responsible for the background check fee (about $25.00) This is required of all independent agents since you will have access to private information!
2. Foodler
Foodler makes it easy to find local restaurants that will deliver to you. As a bonus, you earn points for every order you place through Foodler which can be redeemed for FoodlerBucks, gift cards to places like Amazon and Apple, and even cold hard cash.
Currently, there are 4,710 Foodler cities with more being added to the list all the time. Occasionally, Foodler hires Customer Service Reps to join their growing team.
What does a Foodler Customer Service Rep do?
- Act as the go-between to restaurants and food orderers
- Answer inbound calls
- Respond to emails ASAP
- Troubleshoot technical issues as they come up
What should you have?
- A consistently quiet home office setup
- Headset with input capability
- Flexible schedule
- Full-time availability preferred
Foodler uses a specific software that requires a Mac to use. So, if you don’t have a Mac, you won’t be able to work for Foodler.
Foodler almost always prefers candidates with full time availability, but will also consider qualified applicants looking to work part time. The best way to check whether or not Foodler is hiring is to set a custom job alert.
You’ll get an email letting you know when they’re hiring so you won’t miss out on this opportunity.
3. OrderUp
Simply put, OrderUp is the food you want — delivered. They frequently hire Remote Customer Experience Experts to defuse problems, answer questions, and answer incoming calls from both restaurants and diners.
What does an OrderUp Customer Experience Expert do?
- Work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Answer account questions from restaurants and diners
- Be amazing on the phone at all times
- Offer solutions to any problems or questions
What should you have?
- 2+ years of customer service or call center experience
- A willingness to learn and adapt to new changes as they happen
- Strong communication skills — especially over the phone
- USB headset that plugs directly into your computer
Although this is a remote position, you must be a resident of Maryland to apply! OrderUp is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland and will need you to come into the office as much as three times a week. This is a full time position that pays $14.00/hour to start!
4. Pizza Hut Franchisees First
More than 6,000 Pizza Hut franchises across the U.S. are part of a network called Franchisees First. This group of stores uses Order Entry Agents to process online and phone orders these restaurants receive.
Like GrubHub, Pizza Hut doesn’t directly hire Order Entry Agents. You contract through a company called Contract World as an independent agent. You provide your services and bill for your time as an agent.
What does a Pizza Hut Order Entry Agent do?
- Answer inbound calls
- Process orders using designated script
- Provide customers with product information
- Enter customer information into the system
What should you have?
- 15 hours of availability each week
- Ability to work 10 hours each week during peak times
- Customer service experience
- Quiet home office setup
While it’s free to register as a Member of Contract World, you will have to pay to take and pass classes that certify you to work as a representative of Pizza Hut.
The class itself costs about $25.00. You will also have to pay a monthly $29.00 fee to be a part of the Contract World Network — since you use their platform to conduct work, the monthly fee helps offset these costs.
As a Order Entry Agent, you receive a base rate of $7.25/hour with the opportunity to earn more through bonuses and incentives. On average, you could expect to earn $8.00 to $10.00 an hour taking orders for Pizza Hut from home.
5. Tapingo
Tapingo is one of the newest online food ordering platforms. What makes them unique? They specifically target college students!
Through the Tapingo App, students can customize food orders, pay for orders through the app, and receive alerts when their food is ready — no waiting around wasting time on food. The app provides information for on-campus dining as well as restaurants nearby.
To help things run smoothly, Tapingo hires Remote Customer Support Representatives.
What does a Tapingo Customer Support Representative do?
- Answer inbound calls, respond to emails, and live chat requests
- Meet daily metrics set by your manager
- Provide customer service to students and restaurants/merchants
- Use company-provided information and your best judgement to address questions/comments/concerns
What should you have?
- Can travel to San Francisco for initial one-week training and once a year for annual meeting!
- Typing speed of at least 45 WPM
- Positive attitude when helping all customers
- The work ethic to be able to work remotely
Given the nature of the service, you must be available to nights and weekends to help with incoming orders and questions! Make sure to check Tapingo’s Jobs Page or the Work from Home Happiness job board to see when they’re currently hiring Remote Customer Support Reps!
6. PostMates
PostMates doesn’t just offer on-demand food delivery — they can help you get groceries, office supplies, or anything else directly to your door.
From time to time, they hire remote order placers to help customers get the best of their cities delivered to them. They usually place their Remote Order Placer job openings on Craigslist and not on their Careers Page. So it can be easy to miss this opportunity if you don’t frequent the popular classified site. If you’re brave, you can always email them directly to inquire about openings: remoterecruiting@postmates.com
What does a PostMates Order Placer do?
- Check their online ordering portal for orders
- Phone in those orders to the correct restaurant
- Always be friendly and courteous when placing orders
- Ensure orders are placed accurately
What should you have?
- Ability to place unlimited phone calls
- Able to access remote order database
- Pleasant phone demeanor
- Flexible availability
This is an independent contractor position open to candidates across the U.S. You simply check the PostMates database for orders and call them into the proper restaurant — that’s it. Pay rate is based per call you place — during busy times, you can earn $10.00/hour or more. To contract with PostMates you will need to pass a background check since you will have access to personal information!
7. DoorDash
Note: DoorDash is no longer hiring remote order placers!
DoorDash is an on-demand restaurant and food delivery service making it easy for diners to get the food they want, when they want it!
They operate a lot like PostMates since they hire Remote Order Placers to call in orders that users place through the DoorDash mobile app.
What does a DoorDash Order Placer do?
- Call in orders to restaurants
- Relay customer orders to restaurant merchants
- Make sure orders are relayed accurately
- Make calls any time between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m.
What should you have?
- Able to pass a background check
- Clear speaking voice
- Reliable internet connection
- Access to a phone
This is a very flexible contract position — you choose the days and times you want to work. Of course, peak times are when you’ll earn the most money — as much as $15.00/hour, but on average $10.00/hour.

You can take DoorDash off of the list. They stopped hiring U.S. workers soon after I got hired 3 years ago. They just ended their contracts with all U.S. order placers on Monday. 🙁
